Nathan’s whole collection are must reads for anyone looking to get into real estate photography. They are very clearly written and easy to follow. I was asked to do some RE work by a friend and panicked, because it’s not my specialty, but I had all the equipment Nathan recommends so I bought the books and watched the tutorials. Once I did a few the set ups were quick and the 50-50 editing technique for small rooms made post processing a breeze. The client is thrilled and I have another session booked with her and one for another realtor. It’s my slow season but it’s busy for real estate so I’m happy!

In this, the fourth installment of the Poldark series, George Warleggan intersects further into the Poldark circle. Fortunately, the book still centers around Ross and Demelza, with Dr. Dwight Enys continuing as a very important secondary story line. If one were to judge Ross and Dwight on their merits--I think Dwight comes out as the more honorable. Because of the superb writing, the characters act in ways that are completely within the boundaries of plausibility. The events and actions may occasionally surprise the reader, but they are completely believable and in retrospect, predictable. I found myself especially connecting on an emotional level with Demelza, more so in this book than the 3 previous. As she was angry and hurt, I was angry and hurt. And as she began to relax, I also began to relax. As a fan of the 21st century Poldark TV series--there are a number of scenes that I especially look forward to watching onscreen. "Ross in a rage" will be that much more powerful in the capable hands and eyes of actor Aidan Turner.

I love the Poldark series. I think the author is very creative and adds interesting events to make it captivating and truly interesting. Also, there is a spectrum of great characters that are so colorful and engaging that one wants to know more. I love Demelza, I love the way she loves Ross, her life, who she is and how she approaches things, her strength and beliefs. So when Ross did what he did, it almost broke my heart. I was heartbroken with her. I was betrayed by Ross. I loved Ross, for the rebel he was, for the person who helped his poor and hardworking tenants. I do understand, Elizabeth was his love and was denied him, but really? It was too much to handle to be betrayed by a character like that. I know his life was not easy, constantly fighting for survival, but he had a loving wife, a child, a place to live, people who loved him and looked up to him, work and trust. So sad.

I liked the recent TV production so I decided to try the first book. I loved it, wished it wouldn't end, and luckily there are several more books. You will get to know and sympathize with these characters and one book will draw you to the next. I imagine, in a year or two, I will reread them. Oh, and I've gotten a couple of other people hooked on them.

I have now read 4 of the Poldark books - I loved the first book and the second, third book was a bit frustrating, but by the 4th book I wanted to knock all their heads together, especially Ross! While I think this author writes excellent books, I'm tired of Ross' ridiculous obsession with Elizabeth, who comes across as a very cold, calculating woman, at the cost of his relationship with the woman he actually married, who could jump over Elizabeth's head any day of the week. Now I need to give this series a rest - don't know if I'll come back to read any more - when is it going to end??

I'm hooked now on the Poldark saga, and am working my way through the 12 books. Have to order from UK for books 4-12, so plan time for the shipping. Warleggan will be covered in Season 2 on Masterpiece Theatre, so if you want to know what's coming, read this. The TV series is much more detailed than the 1970s version, but still only covers part of the depth in the books. There are actions here that will echo through to the last book. This is a clan and a saga that deserves to be ready by lots of folk who like well crafted historical fiction.

I enjoyed reading this series years ago. My husband watched the new TV version and enjoys this type of historical fiction, so I bought him the first two books. But after reading those two he told me not to bother buying the rest in the series. He complained that everything was always going wrong with the Poldarks vs. the Warleggans. Just when you think things will turn for Poldark there's another set back. I remembered that being an issue for me too and that it continues all through the entire series. Maybe not enough satisfaction for all readers.

Winston Graham series. Enjoyed the TV program which actually stayed pretty true to the books. Currently on book 5 and they are slow but steady and the characters hold my interest, however I have a huge capacity for what bores others. Have read quite a few novels in the 1780 through Napoleonic wars, particularly those dealing with the British Navy. While these are more of a domestic tale, the period is interesting to me.

After watching the PBS Poldark series which covers the first two books by Winston Graham I purchased the third and fourth books and have enjoyed them also. Sometimes the way they speak is hard to understand though and I find myself reading a sentence a couple of times.

It is a story about parents who are trying their best to save their children and to give them a chance at a better and longer life.First there is Ruth who was !8 when she had to flee Nazi Germany in 1939 and who, in a circumvented way, eventually ended up in the USA.Next is Phu who had to leave Vietnam at the age of 14. He arrived here in the USA in 1980.Jose had a much shorter journey; but by no means any safer. He fled Cuba for the USA in 1980. He was 13.Najeeba left Afghanistan at the tender age of 11. She arrived in Australia in 2000.Then there is Mohamed who found his way to Italy in 2006. He was 13.How these five children arrived at their final destinations is so vividly told that a child of the same age as these child refugees would be able to understand their stories AND, I think, THAT is what is important. The art work by Eleanor Shakespeare is beyond amazing as it brings visualization to each story. It is important to read every single page from the introduction to all of the time lines to fully begin to grasp the seriousness, gravity and danger of each story. These are only five stories out of thousands, hundreds of thousands through out the years who have had to flee their homeland with their parents or alone to just stay alive. I can't imagine nor fathom such a situation or environment.Parental Note: This book is recommended by the publisher for children 10-12. I had to give this some serious thought as I have a 10 year old granddaughter. My recommendation would be to read this book WITH your 10 year old child. For children older, I suggest you read the book first in order to be prepared to answer any questions and for some serious discussions. Again, I reiterate, this is not a fairytale nor fantasy...this is real life for so many children. A story that our own children should know about.

Unfortunately Stormy Seas comes at an unsympathetic and ugly time for refugees in the United States and EU. It is a time where angry debates, pernicious laws and frankly hate speech and actions are directed towards them. Right now gates are closing to Syrian refugees and borders are tightening or closed to those who are desperate and fearful for their lives. It makes me heartsick. Fortunately we have Stormy Seas to remind us that this has been an historical struggle that has happened since the 1600's and probably before. She shows us how all over the country, yours and mine, children were turned away despite being in danger and this has happened over and over again. Her focus in on children who are young boat refugees. Some came with family and some did not. Their fear and suffering are evident yet these young children find a place and some peace as they become citizens in their new country. The book is visually arresting. Using collage, picture, paint and a myriad of styles the pictures shows us the perils and promise of their harrowing journeys.Thank you to Netgalley who gave me this book to review for an honest opinion.

The seriousness of the peril is there without going into graphic details. Historical context is given as well as timelines. Know when you order this that it is a novelized biography of John Calvin intended for older children (perhaps about 8-12). In this book of about 150 pages, MacKenzie has woven the facts of Calvin's life into story form, necessarily resulting in some liberty with dialog and events that purists might find objectionable. Nevertheless, it remains a pretty good introduction into the life of John Calvin.On the plus side, MacKenzie does a remarkably good job of making the gospel abundantly clear. Helpful items are included in the last pages of the book: A carefully selected bibliography, a timeline for the life of Calvin, a two-page summary of what we mean by "Reformed Theology" (summarizing the five points of Calvinism--TULIP), and suggestions and questions for further topics.

I was surprised at how well the author got the main points of Calvin's life and thought across in a presentation designed for youth or young adults. Calvin is not lighthearted fun. Many of the other books in the Trailblazer series are easier to read but substance is sometimes sacrificed a bit as a result. I could recommend this even for older adults. I have found knowledge of church history and personalities woefully lacking these days. This book can help remedy that.

The author really did a great job of explaining the gospel clearly. Great for a father to read to his young son.

This is a good intro bio for those interested in Mr. Calvin. Used as a gift, so I only had time to skim it, but it seemed like enough info was included.

This biography was really a pleasant surprise for a few reasons. I'm skeptical at times about biographies for children or young adults, as a good number of the ones I've read end up dumbing down the real issues at stake in the story. Especially in Christian biographies, the subject matter tends to be a little light on the theological side of things, focusing sometimes on moral lessons from the subject's life rather than really delving unashamedly into the trials and glories of the Christian's life. Kids can handle this kind of stuff, and biographies would do well to include more of the whole story. The Christian story has its dark moments, but light really does win out in the end. And we would all do well to glory in our King's victory over sin and the enemy, all the more because we've seen sin and the enemy for the adversaries they are.This particular biography is very well written from the start as it tells the story of John Calvin in narrative form. Some creative liberties are taken by Mackenzie, but overall they don't detract from, or change the real substance of the story of Calvin's life; the well-paced narrative puts Calvin in historical context and brings to life the wondrous work God brought accomplished through the reformers.The quality of the storytelling is truly a valuable mark for this little book. For example, the opening sentences read, "Thundering hooves clattered along the cobbled streets. The Reformation, and Calvin's life took place in the real world, where "thundering hooves" of horses "clattered on cobbled streets." Theology doesn't just affect the intellectual world, it affects everything. And the way Mackenzie tells her story reinforces this, and is what she shows about Calvin's life - that knowing God rightly is truly an adventure, affecting all of life. Her storytelling is very, very important.The book really is part biography, part theological study. Again, it's wonderful how Mackenzie combines the storytelling of Calvin's life, with the important theological truths that he defended. The heavy theology could also be seen as a drawback, as there are parts where Calvin takes an aside with another character, together expounding or conversing over a point of theological debate. The downside would be that it interrupts the flow of the story, but it's really pretty valuable all the same.Mackenzie even goes so far as to include an appendix at the end of the book, explaining the Doctrines of Grace in case readers are wondering about Reformed theology at all, which they probably won't be after the clear treatment of Calvin's theology they've already had in the book proper. The storytelling, and the theology are robust and biblical.

Excellent book on Calvin, using it for our Reformation Day evening at church. Easy to read and full of solid gospel teaching, as well as the life of Calvin. Highly recommend!
