Working in the short term rehab / SNF setting for more than a decade, I can definitely say this book offers a very practical approach to address falls in the geriatric population.The first half of the book talks about the different causes and often ignored aspects of falls in the elderly. The second half which is my favorite, offers a plethora of graded exercises to address different areas affecting balance. These exercises can easily be applied in any setting, progressed from sitting to walking and carried over to home as HEP.Definitely worth my money spent on getting this book- Bharathi Reddy DPT
I was having a terrible series of falls for several months. Putting a request on Amazon for a reference on balance; this was one of the answers that arrived on my screen. This seemed to be the best of the lot. After only a few weeks my balance is much better and falls have stopped.I am a volunteer at my local hospital. I showed my book to our nurse in charge of physical therapy, she was so impressed she wanted to borrow my book. I decided I had better buy a copy for her!

I'm a physical therapy student and I love how this addresses such an epidemic of the aging population and their high risk of falls. The text is clear and concise, making it easy for patients to comprehend while the images and pictures are excellent and help provide a detailed understanding of the intricacies of balance. If you are a patient, trainer, strength coach or movement specialist, do yourself a favor and purchase this book, you will be forever grateful!
This 177 page book has 63 pages of general explanation of balance problems, clearly written and, as far as I can tell, correct. I found it helpful. The remainder is descriptions of specific exercises to try, arranged in levels of increasing difficulty.Although there are a number of known causes of balance problems, the cause in most people is unknown. I am 85 years old, had evaluation by an audiologist who found that the problem is not in my ears, & was treated by a physical therapist specializing in balance problems; the treatment helped considerably. I had just started the exercises in the book when physical therapy began, & now that the therapy is done plan to try more of them, but am not yet in a position to say how helpful the exercises in the book are.
Excellent short read. I appreciate the application of disablement model and the inclusion of balance screening tools. This book is a valuable tool especially to physical therapist who are in the home care practice, the information inside this book can be applied to practice immediately. I love the layout of the exercises, I wish there is a printable version for patient handout (to make my life easier in the field). I highly recommend this book to home care PTs and PT students.
This book is very easy to read and utilizes the interdisciplinary approach which is vital in the treatment of the patients. In addition, I love the explanations of "WHY" for each of the prescribed exercises. I will strongly recommend this book as part of patient/caregiver education to help in preventing falls as they transition from a skilled nursing facility, back to their home.Nilka, OT
