There are a few books that I have read, and even before I finished them, realized that they changed something significant about my life. Unshakeable: Your FInancial Freedom Playbook by Tony Robbins is one of those.It wasn’t that the principles here are new to me. The concepts are actually pretty simple to grasp.Don’t operate out of fear, or invest according to emotion. Make your decisions based on logic.Invest for the long term. Compounding interest always wins.Minimize tax liability and fees.Diversify to protect yourself when down times come.Invest more when everything is on sale.Rebalance your investments, preferably annually.Just because I shared these basic highlights does not mean you do not need to read the book. Far from it. They absolutely mean you need to read it, because all of the principles in the list make sense, and you can know you should do them, but unless you know how, that knowledge is useless.You could flounder about on your own: I have done so most of my life. You can remake the mistakes others have made, and learn on your own. But that will be (and has been) an expensive choice.You can sit on the sidelines, living in fear and keeping your assets and investments in cash rather than getting into investing at all. This is the surest way to lose, especially with today’s low interest rates.Or you can instead learn from the masters. Read Tony’s book and not only will you learn from him, but you will learn from those he has known and worked with, some of the wealthiest and most successful investors on the planet. You will also learn how to choose a financial advisor of your own, where to set up your retirement funds and how, and even more.I can’t say enough about this book, but I can’t leave the review without talking about the final chapter, something I have been talking about and trying to master the last few years. Tony tells you of his journey and gives you his advice about how to be personally wealthy--in a beautiful state rather than a suffering state no matter what your circumstances.This takes a disciplined mind, and it is only a disciplined mind that will follow the advice outlined in this book. The biggest obstacle to your success in any area is you, and this book will teach you how to overcome that in more than just your finances.Five stars. Well done. Well edited and written. If you don’t read another book about building wealth and finances this year, make reading this one a top priority. You won’t regret it.
This may be a really good book by itself if you have not read the first book - " Money - Master the game" by Tony.In my case, I read the first book and expected that this second book will provide some new information specific to the current environment we are in (2017 - when this book came out). I did not get any new information out of this book. If you want to get value from Tony's research (which is 5 stars - really great work) read the first book. Money - Master the game MONEY Master the Game: 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom
If you want to read a 200 page advertisement for creative planning this is your book. Tony appears to be pitching a company that is like vanguard but charges much more. He says to buy index funds but then plugs companies that pay him, that will in turn charge you extra fees to own the said index funds that he tells you to buy. If you buy this book you will mostly be paying for an advertisement for the companies that pay Tony. You can watch commercials for free if that is what you’re after.
Don't buy it if you already have his "Money - Master the Game".
Technically this book could be about 30 pages focused on how-2 only without all of the drawn on stories and repetitive content. Pretty much the entire advice consists of investing in the stock market and pushing to become a client of the co-writer of this book if you have 100k to invest. I did buy 3 of these because all of the proceeds (I hope) are getting donated and that's awesome but would have done that with 20 pages book with concise to the point advice to save me time. I do recommend it but don't expect to get anything from this book that's going to be an "aHa! moment.
This book has some good advice for novice investors - mainly that they should be investing. And it goes on to say that index funds are a good investment vehicle for most people. Agreed. And I've liked Tony Robbins' materials in the past; Power Talk II specifically.But I think Mr. Robbins has changed since those early, eager, idealistic, hopeful days. Now he seems more like an infomercial salesman to me. He's pitching the Creative Planning company and strongly suggesting his readers use that company for their financial planning.I signed up for their services, and they lost $25,000 of my money in two weeks. Granted, there was a market downturn, but their investment choices have not bounced back as quickly as the market itself. I fired Creative and am now investing in index funds at Vanguard. I wish I'd saved the money I spent on the book, and especially on hiring this firm - who by the way, still gets paid even when they fail miserably. Invest on your own and don't listen to Tony Robbins anymore - unless you go for the old Tony Robbins stuff when he was still for real.
This book is a good read. Pretty much just invest in low cost mutual funds to save on expenses. He is also pushes for his company where there is a minimum 100,000 to participate in. That company is called Creative Planning. Pretty much this is a front to put your money in their company.
Condensed, actionable version of "Money; Master the Game". Much shorter and to the point with information you can put to use right away. I would recommend getting "Money; Master the Game" for a more background and in depth information.
