Ghost Heart is a taut page-turner and a well-told story. I’ve read other books by Lisa Harris, and this new partnership is very promising. These two good writers describe their long-distance collaboration, each one writing the segments that fit their expertise, and their solid experience shows. You’ll enjoy the story; it’s well-researched and believable. Especially fine-tuned are the Christian elements, which are minimal but sturdy and expressed well. It’s rare for books in this genre to handle that element properly, but again, this is right in Lisa Harris’s wheelhouse. I do reluctantly share two negative impressions. In parts of the book, the writing becomes more emotionally overwrought; the lurching feelings of Mia or “Race,” the protagonists, are described in increasingly flamboyant terms. Examples: “Anger flared his nostrils and narrowed his killer blue eyes.” “The solid strength of him sent a jolt through her body.” “The fear that had chased her across the flat terrain now wrapped its greedy fingers around her soul and tormented the dark corners of her mind.” “Fear seeped through Jeme like a poison, completely choking out any seeds of hope.” “A pang of jealousy prickled Mia’s clammy skin.” “Thundering adrenalin heated her body.” (Then on the same page: “She throttled the panic racing through her veins.”) I’m sure some readers will appreciate the throbbing color, but I found myself often rolling my eyes and thinking: Oh brother. Not a big deal, but there are scattered typos here and there, e.g. “She imagined her father POURING over those annual scraps of information she sent.” The second issue is an element of racial clumsiness, which is unfortunate in a book so specifically written to affirm the humanity and Christian charity of the principal characters. Ghost Heart is about the exploitation of albino children in African countries; these good writers are committed to the highest ideals of brotherhood. Still, it’s true that: the heroic doctor is white. The dashing pilot is white. The evil corrupt villain doctor is black. The team of kidnapping thugs are all black. All of this could be forgiven, of course, since the setting for the story is Africa. But the writers really do stumble badly when “Race” grunts at one of the goons: “Whew, Timbo, you’re a big BOY.” Not good. Okay. Having said that, this is still a powerful book. The above points are definitely fixable, and I have no doubt the writers are fully committed to excellence and the continued crafting of solid, God-honoring tales. I’m in awe of their ability to create a complex and fascinating medical drama that uplifts the human spirit.

What a heart (no pun intended) gripping story has been written by these two gifted authors! Just wait until you read in the back of the book what spurred this novel to be written! If a little bit of graphic descriptions of body parts and blood bother you, please try not to let that keep you from reading this tale with a very surprising ending. The story is staged both here in the United States and Africa, telling about organ donation and procurement. Along with that storyline is another about pharmaceutical testing of medicines and ultimately about greed with its consequences. Remember, this is fiction even though as I read the book I could envision all that was described as taking place. Here is a very good way of giving us insight into what parents of children or adults go through when needing an organ replacement.I felt for the doctor fighting for her patient’s survival in a small village in Africa while another doctor was after money, prestige and playing upon the superstition of the villagers. Dr. Mia Kendall would befriend the villagers and help to save lives no matter the cost to her personally. Race was the pilot who would transport the organs to the hospitals and as Dr. Kendell shared her suspicions, he risks a lot to help. Could there be a blossoming romance between the pilot and doctor? Here is a thriller that will cause your heart to race and have you staying up until all hours reading as you reach the very action-packed ending! The novel is one of the best and one of my favorites for this year thus far! Though truth be told I have many favorites being a voracious reader, lol!

"According to legend, their kind could never die. When they grew old, they simply vanished from this world, like smoke from the cooking fire . . . but not all legends are true."Deep within the wilds of Tanzania, brutality is masquerading as philanthropy. Major organs are being ripped from their sanctuary, particularly hearts; and if a man, woman, or child happens to be cursed with albino blood, there is little hope for survival. Caught in the middle of this terrible foray is pediatric transplant surgeon Mia Kendall, whose patients seem to be dying at a surprising rate, in spite of her meticulous techniques and use of anti-rejection medications. Suspecting that foul play is somehow involved at the highest level, Mia coaxes bush pilot Race Daniels into helping her untangle what appears to be an international web of deceit.Miles away in Cincinnati, Ohio, a young mother is running a race against time; watching her young daughter's life seep out of her body day after day has been an agonizing journey with a very tragic ending in sight. Kelsey needs a new heart and parents with a million dollars in the bank; Catherine and Brad Taylor have neither, and their faith in each other is fading in the process. When it seems that an answer to prayer may be found in Africa, will Catherine risk everything dear to her own heart in exchange for her daughter's life? This medical thriller is written with an acute sense of the sanctity of life while hurling its readers through peril and darkness before bursting back into the light.
