This is my go-to book when I need to dig under the covers and really figure out some bit of ssh. A highly valued and much used reference book. Strongly recommended!
My only complaint is that I now want to note even more about SSH.
Guys at work laughed when I got this: Wow, nearly 700 pages and it only has the "essentials"!? Of course, we all use ssh every single day, but it takes O'Reilly (or source code) to figure out EVERYTHING it's good for. The product arrived within the alotted time and was in "good" condition as advertised. It also let me take it out of my bookshelf slot on Safari On Line for a fraction of what it would otherwise have cost.
I'm not half way through the book and already it has given me a much better understanding of ssh. Now when someone at work has a question about ssh they come to me.
Start here to learn SSH (but it helps to have a 'NIX background first!). Follow up with the Michael Lucas book for later updates and special advanced techniques.
This book is well written with illustrated examples. It's easy to read and presents the concepts in a concise manner which has made it very easy to come up to speed on SSH quickly.
Just what I was looking for, it explains everything I was asked in a job interview.
For something that should be simple SSH is anything but a walk in the park. This is compounded by the fact that the documentation for SSH just blows. This book, however, does everything but blow. In classic O'Reilly fashion the author decomposes the topic and covers it effectively from almost every angle with excellent writing and superb graphics. This is a great book for anyone who uses SSH, or who is having issues with it.
