I’m not a reviewer...this might be my first for a book. I just sent this to the author on Facebook if it gives you an idea of how I felt.Hi Tim! I just finished The Silence and I have to tell you after reading hundreds (thousands?) of horror and suspense and creepy this one just slayed me. I bought it in soft cover and then because I’m a 99% kindle reader I couldn’t bear to turn the lights off (not just because of poor hubby trying to sleep) so I just bought it on kindle and just now finished it. I so wish I could beg you to tell me more...will you write another in this world? If not please reconsider. #addicted (jk I’m not on twitter so this is my only way to reach out)Thank you. Thank you for such a great read and a few scary nights. I’m onto the next one of yours (I bought three) and can not wait. Hope they are even half as good.SincerelyChristie Loving

This book was amazingly creepy and felt more like psychological horror, which I like best anyways. I loved Bird Box and several reviews compared the two, but I thought they were very different and loved both! A mining expedition has catastrophic consequences, when the team discovers a formerly untouched world underground. It has developed an ecosystem of its own after millions of years. The scientists are broadcasting their expedition on the Discovery channel when everyone is viciously attacked, though at first the details are unclear and people think it may be a hoax. A creature has been released and results are immediately devastating; this creature is plentiful & blind, and attacks anything making noise and hunts by sonar of some kind. We follow one family through the UK throughout the entire event's unfolding and watch them cope with the terror of a new silent life, adjusting the best way they can in what has become a scary new world, essentially under siege! Great book, really creepy and seems a lot more plausible than many other horror books, which makes it worse (in a good way)!

THE SILENCE, by Tim Lebbon has a lot of people asking if it is like the novel BIRD BOX. Having read both novels, I can honestly say that the two are completely different. THE SILENCE takes us to the UK BEFORE some world-changing events occur. We have the opportunity to meet the main characters in their day-to-day settings--and therefore learn about their normal lives--before the mayhem begins. The only difference in the family that this novel features is that the oldest daughter, Ally, was in an accident years before and is now deaf. She communicates by reading lips, and sign language. While this supposedly gives them an advantage in a world overrun by "things" that hone in on sound, I still don't see it as THAT much of an advantage. Yes, they can communicate silently, but if startled, she (and the rest of the family) are still able to scream, etc., without thinking.I don't want to ruin the story for others, so I won't go into details about the new "threat", but I do want to add that Lebbon did a fantastic job in this area! He brought something "new" and interesting to the genre, and gave us only the information that the characters had. This tactic meant that we were "closer" to them, as we journeyed alongside them without the advantage of addition knowledge. In the end, this was a story of one particular family's decisions and adaptions while they tried to survive the new threat unleashed. The origin of the threat also had enough to give that moment of "what if?", as we really don't know all there is to know about parts of our planet. An excellent thriller with horror elements in abundance.Recommended!

I do believe this is my favorite book by Tim Lebbon so far. The pacing of the story was perfect and the building sense of urgency kept me engrossed to the point that I had to literally make myself slow down so as not to miss anything. One family, and a world beset by an unbeatable attack from the bowels of the earth itself. The dynamics between the family members was so realistic it was almost like being there with them and sharing their experiences first-hand. I absolutely loved THE SILENCE and highly recommend it!

I love a good end of the world novel. I love a good horror novel. I really love monsters. Throw them all together in a blender. Hit the high octane button and you have The Silence. Right now I would read anything Tim Lebbon writes. He has been on a roll for me. I don't think anyone is pushing the creepy meter quite as effectively as he is.Coming off of writing one of my favorite zombie novels with Coldbrook, Lebbon turns in one of my favorite apocalypse stories. When the discovery of a cave system releases some nasty monsters into our ecosystem they sweep across Europe and Asia killing everything in their path. The story follows Ally and her family as they flee across the U.K. seeking a safe place from the flying bundles of death. Early on the world realizes sound is deadly. Any noise attracts the vesps (the flying carnivorous death machines). For Ally who has lost her hearing years earlier in a deadly car crash the world of silence is nothing new but she must help her family adjust before they become a meal for the flying plague. The story moves at a brisk pace and is full of horror and creepiness. In the end what makes the story a winner for me is Ally. I love her and her family. Their love for each other and their desire to make sure they survive this new quiet world keeps me invested in the story all the way through. Lebbon doesn't waste a word. He weaves them together beautifully. It has been a long time since a book both creeped me out and made me tear up (The tears came in one of the most horrifying and human moments of the book. It happened in the car. That's all I am giving you. I don't want to ruin the moment). If you like your horror mixed with a large dose of love and humanity than this book is for you. If you have never read Tim Lebbon before, this is a good place to start. After you love this book go out and buy Coldbrook, you won't regret it.
